Flowerovlove, a London-based artist and model, is going viral on TikTok with her single “breaking news.”

Born Joyce Cisse, her stage name “flowerovlove” began as just an Instagram handle until the singer decided to use it for music and give it meaning.

Cisse told Culted, “‘flower’ represents humans growing and blossoming like a flower does from a seed and we do from an egg. Flowers fall down at the end of the year but always grow back and we should see ourselves the same, as beautiful flowers. ‘love’ represents self love and giving love to others and feeling like you love the music you’re listening to.”

Flowerovlove also goes by a stage name to separate herself from her job. Cisse told Office Magazine, “This is flowerovlove and then this is Joyce and she’s living her life. It makes it easier to separate work and life, although I am doing both.”

The “breaking news” singer has roots in indie but wants to venture into pop. Cisse told Flood Magazine, “I’ve always wanted to go a little bit more pop, but there will always be a twang of alternative.”

The U.K. pop star follows in Olivia Rodrigo’s footsteps regarding her diaristic songwriting style. The artist tends to write about girlhood from a bubbly perspective, creating the bedroom pop music she wanted to hear as a little girl.

The songwriter states, “The feeling that I draw from is always nostalgia. So I’m always thinking about how I felt when I first listened to music. When I’m creating I want to recreate that feeling because I feel like music is a massive healer, music has so much power to make you feel good.”

Cisse started her music journey by making tunes in her brother’s bedroom when she was 13. However, she took a detour from music to pursue modeling. “I got really big into the law of attraction and manifested a modeling job. My first-ever booking was a Gucci campaign. I did it for maybe six months but I got tired of being someone’s doll,” the artist expresses.

The model has performed in Mulberry and attended a few fashion week events. She shared a fun fashion week story with Culted: “Okay, so I was running late to a show and it was pouring with rain outside. I arrived right before the models were about to walk so I had to walk on the runway to get to my seat and the designer and all the models backstage were watching me and were like ‘omg who is she she’s so beautiful’ so I went from panicking to an ego boost and it was embarrassing but fun.”

Flowerovlove started taking music seriously three years ago with her debut EP Think Flower. Since then, the pop artist released her sophomore EP, A Mosh Pit in The Clouds, and popular singles like “Hannah Montana,” “Love You,” “Coffee Shop,” “Next Best Exit,” “a girl like me,” “BOYS,” and her newest single “breaking news.” The themes in her music are often about gratitude, reflection, meditation, and self-improvement.

“Breaking news” will be on the singer’s upcoming EP, Ache in My Tooth, her metaphor for adolescence. The song has a music video where she and her love interest bond ironically over flowerovlove’s music and fall in love in a library.

Last week, the London artist released a behind-the-scenes video explaining the concept behind “breaking news.” The track was inspired by Rex Orange County’s 2017 hit “Loving Is Easy.” flowerovlove expresses, “I came into the session and said, ‘I want to write a love song. I just wanted to write a love song, and it’s slightly inspired by a person I met recently.”

The teenager has already been dubbed “the next big thing” by Zane Lowe and Doja Cat called “breaking news,” her favorite song.

This summer, the self-proclaimed “lovergirl” performed at Glastonbury on the Lonely Hearts stage. If you want to see flowerovlove on tour, click here for tickets.
