Ariana Grande Survives the Gauntlet on New Hot Ones Episode

Ariana Grande confronts a spicy challenge on the latest episode of Hot Ones while discussing Wicked, music leaks, and emotional songs.

Though the array of spicy wings leaves even the host, Sean Evans, down for the count by the end of the newest Hot Ones episode, the “yes, and?” singer is cool, calm, and collected even while tasting the hottest sauces. “I did not expect this today,” the pop star remarks after being unfazed by the final wing. “I’m worried. Something’s off…It shouldn’t feel like this.”

While sampling a mild wing, the “we can’t be friends” singer describes her experience singing live on the set of Wicked while doing stunts. “There was lots of [floating] bubble singing, which was very high up…I had a lot of stunty singing things, but nothing compares to Cynthia Erivo.”

The singer praises her co-star’s on-set performance: “Watching Cynthia in her harness with a broom, a hat, wig, corset, dress…flipping upside down, flying around the set, singing ‘Defying Gravity’ every take like it’s nothing, [it’s] just the most phenomenal thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

As Evans points out, the “the boy is mine” singer has had plenty of experience with her music getting stolen and leaked to the public. Grande speaks on these painful, conflicting instances. “It’s really hard for me, because it’s really disheartening, and it’s, like, disappointing, and it sucks…and then the other side is, like, I’m so grateful to be an artist that people care about, and my fans want more of me, so they’re going to these extremes to steal and break in…I sit somewhere in between being grateful to be here at all, and being like, ‘But really? Come on.’”

Later on, the artist explains how she has overcome sadness while performing songs tied to emotional memories. “ I think becoming a pop star is insane at 19 or 20, and I think that experience was sort of married to some of the songs a little bit…but with time and therapy, we are sort of able to re-embrace, so I feel just really proud and grateful and happy when I hear them. I’m like, ‘That’s a good song,’ whereas I used to maybe hear it and cry, so that’s a beautiful thing.”
