In a new episode of Instagram’s podcast Close Friends Only, Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla offered fans a rare glimpse into their friendship.

The two southern rap sensations, known for their unwavering personas and daring music, shared their stories. The artists revealed a bond that is as unique as it is inspiring and the challenges they face as women in the hip-hop industry.

The conversation began with the duo reminiscing about their first meeting at Stallion‘s “Hottieween” party last year. Despite a “scary” initial encounter, their connection quickly grew into a deep friendship marked by mutual respect and support. GloRilla recounted their first studio session together, describing the “Mamushi” rapper as “very easy to talk to,” a sentiment that set the foundation for their close relationship. The Hottie Coach, affectionately known as the “Houston Hottie,” added a playful touch by comparing their friendship to mango habanero: “sweet and really hot,” reflecting their warmth and fiery personalities.

The discussion then shifted to the delicate balance between their true selves and stage personas. The “Yeah Glo!” rapper emphasized that her on-stage persona is no different from who she is, stating, “What I rap about is just me. I don’t get no, ‘Oh okay, I’m finna hang GloRilla up and be Glo [Gloria], and be a good girl.’ No, I’m just me.” This candid revelation underscored her commitment to authenticity in her music and personal life.

However, the three-time Grammy award winner shared a more nuanced view of her dual identity as Megan and Megan Thee Stallion. “When I’m on stage, I’m definitely all the way Megan Thee Stallion. But when I get off stage, you know me. I definitely need to learn how to be Megan and Megan Thee Stallion. Everyone doesn’t deserve to know Megan,” she confessed.

The podcast also revealed the backstory behind Megan’s decision to have the “Wanna Be” rapper as the opening act for her Hot Girl Summer Tour. Initially planning to go solo, the Megan artist chose GloRilla because of her music and the sense of fun she felt they could bring together. “I felt like we need girls, we need to have a good time, and we need to have a blast,” she explained, further cementing the camaraderie and shared vision between the two artists.

As the conversation drew to a close, both women reflected on their journeys in the music industry and their roles as leading female rappers from the South. “We are doing something very unique for the South. Having big female rappers from the South, we’re really the first out of our time,” Megan noted, underlining the profound impact of their success in a genre that male voices have often dominated.
