Can you believe it’s almost been a year since GUTS came out? To celebrate, Olivia Rodrigo discusses road life, her song of the summer, and the GUTS popup with Complex.

Rodrigo spent the first half of 2024 on the road for the GUTS World Tour. This month, the “so american” singer is back in L.A. for six arena concerts. On August 15, Complex interviewed the pop star during the middle of her L.A. shows. At the time, the “vampire” singer was also hosting a GUTS popup, which was open to the public until August 18. During their conversation, the artist gave tour updates, spoke about the music she has been listening to, and much more.

The artist reveals that the funniest moment on tour involves horses. “The only thing I can think of is we were in Kentucky or some place in the South, and there were these little horses that you could get on and pedal, and they’d gallop with you. We loved them so much that we bought them to put on the bus, and they go everywhere with us. So we have these little horses that come everywhere and they’re our primary mode of transportation around the venue,” she expresses.

Sometimes the “obsessed” singer has some downtime between shows. The pop star confesses that she “sleeps 13 hours a day sometimes.” When the hitmaker isn’t sleeping, she watches Sex and the City to remind herself of home. The artist also reads The Secret History by Donna Tartt in her free time.

Moreover, fans know that the superstar has stellar taste in music. The “get him back!” singer expresses, “I have a very good … So, I’ll do some cardio before I go onstage. Soulja Boy, I sometimes listen to get hyped. What else? ‘FTCU’ by Nicki Minaj. Just hype songs like that.”

She also reveals that her song of the summer is “Guess” by Charli xcx featuring Billie Eilish.

When reflecting on GUTS‘ one-year anniversary coming up, the “lacy” singer believes her sophomore album gave her a chance to sharpen her songwriting skills and delve deeper into her craft.

The musician also reflects on what it’s like to play in her hometown. “It’s amazing. It’s kind of weird, I’ve been on tour for so long in various cities around the world, so it’s interesting to just wake up in my own bed and be like, ‘Oh, time to play a show today!’ It throws off my routine a little bit, but it’s so nice to be home, and have all my friends and family come to the shows. It’s a really good vibe,” she explains.

It’s no secret that Rodrigo loves L.A., but it’s more than that. She’s obsessed. The star made a whole merch collection of tank tops and hoodies professing her love for the dream-making town. However, it’s the white tank top with a black and white photo that is her favorite.

The interview concludes with the “teenage dream” singer spilling her guts at her favorite breakfast spot, Jon & Vinny’s. She also asks fans to confess a bad idea they made recently.

If you missed the popup, don’t worry because there is a limited amount of merch available on Aug 21.

You can buy tickets for Olivia Rodrigo’s upcoming shows on Ticketmaster. In the meantime, GUTS is available on all streaming platforms.
