Dancing With the Stars’ thirty-third pre-season is well underway, and today we learned who is the first contestant to grace the ballroom floor. As fans have speculated, Olympic bronze medalist Stephen Nedoroscik will compete for the Mirrorball trophy this September.

In case you’re unaware, the athlete was our source of fun and wholesomeness during this year’s Olympics. From his zen attitude, his Rubik’s cube skills, and earning the title of “Pommel Horse Guy,” Nedoroscik was indeed a breakout star.

Nedoroscik sat down with Good Morning America to announce the new venture, where he also answered some very important questions.

For one, he definitely wants to bring some of those medal-winning gymnastic skills to the dancefloor. “I want to do some flares; bring some of that gymnastics. Maybe a backflip or handstand. I want to have fun with it,” he teased.

As for the glasses, which have become a staple in his appearance, he wants to try dancing with them but fears them flying off – leaving it up to the award-winning wardrobe department to come up with different designs to match the weekly costumes. “Maybe we can do a gadget; keep them on. Maybe a new pair of glasses to match the theme.”

It’s safe to assume he just wants to have some fun and that spirit alone would make him a contender for sure.

Not to mention, Nedoroscik also has precedence to set as the first male gymnast to compete in the series. DWTS has welcomed a long line of female gymnasts from Laurie Hernandez, Simone Biles, and most recently, Suni Lee, who commented on the announcement, “OMG STEPHENNNN.”

His pro partner has not been revealed; however, fans have high hopes to see him paired with either Britt Stewart, Koko Iwasaki, or Daniella Karagach. Nonetheless, fans are pleased with the first of many announcements and cannot wait to see what the Olympic medalist brings to the competition.

The new cast of celebrities will be revealed exclusively on Good Morning America on September 4. Season 33 of Dancing With the Stars will premiere on Tuesday, September 17 at 8:00 P.M. on ABC, Disney+, and next day on Hulu
