Beyoncé is GQ Magazine’s October issue cover star. In a rare interview, the singer opened up about motherhood, her new whiskey brand, and her relationship with fame.

In the wake of releasing her critically acclaimed Country crossover Cowboy Carter, award-winning haircare line Cécred, and now her new whiskey brand, SirDavis, the “Texas Hold Em” singer, known for rarely doing interviews, sat down with GQ to share insights into her recent ventures.

Beyoncé’s genre-defying album Cowboy Carter sparked questions from both the media and the general public about the authenticity of its country influences. Despite questioning, she became the first Black Woman to earn a number-one country song in history.

However, Beyoncé’s goal was to get people to research, the star told GQ.

“I wanted everyone to take a minute to research on the word cowboy. History is often told by the victors. And American history? It’s been rewritten endlessly. Up to a quarter of all cowboys were Black. These men faced a world that refused to see them as equal, yet they were the backbone of the cattle industry,” she told the magazine.

Knowles’s exploration of country culture didn’t stop with music; the Texas native extended her curiosity into the liquor industry, leading to the creation of SirDavis.

“Making liquor has been in Southern families like mine for many generations. The Jack Daniel’s famous recipe? That was heavily influenced by a Black man named Nathan “Nearest” Green. He was a former slave who became Jack Daniel’s master distiller. Now, there’s a delicious whiskey, Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey,” the singer added.

With over 30 years in the industry, she describes fame as a “prison.”

“Working on the music for Cowboy Carter and launching this exciting new project feel nothing like prison, nor a burden. In fact, I only work on what liberates me. It is fame that can at times feel like prison. So, when you don’t see me on red carpets, and when I disappear until I have art to share, that’s why,” she stated.

Knowles, a Mother of 3 calls being a parent “fulfilling.”

“Raising three kids isn’t easy. The older they get, the more they become their own individuals with unique needs, hobbies, and social lives. My twins are God-sent. Parenting constantly teaches you about yourself. It takes a lot of prayer and patience. I love it. It’s grounding and fulfilling.”

Fans were thrilled when the singer appeared on the cover of GQ, offering a more personal glimpse into her life.
