Margot Robbie To Start Production On New Video Game Adaptation
Margot Robbie once again brings an imaginary land to life on the big screen. Coming off the success of the 2023 summer blockbuster, Barbie, Robbie and husband Tom Ackerly announce plans to produce a film based on EA’s Sims.
Margot Robbie will reportedly produce a film adaptation of ‘THE SIMS’ with Kate Herron set to direct.

This announcement comes with the upcoming anniversary of the Sims games when viewers are expected to learn more about the film. The actress’s production company, LuckyChap, whose latest work includes Saltburn and Barbie, will be producing the upcoming film.
Despite it being too early for most details, some of the production team have already been confirmed in addition to LuckyChap. Amazon MGM Studios will also be working on the project and the film is also set to be co-written by British author and comedian Briony Redman. Loki and The Last of Us director Kate Herron is also signed onto the project.
The Sims film adaptation was announced in tandem with the adaptation of Monopoly, also to be produced by the company. The Monopoly film is highly anticipated and has been rumored to be in production for the past decade. Much like The Sims, there are not yet many details surrounding the project, but Hasbro Entertainment has been confirmed as a producer.
The upcoming project is said to be heavily rooted in the Sims universe, referencing lore and game specifics. This includes the potential explanation of what happened to some fan-favorite characters like Bella Goth, pools with no ladders, and freezer bunnies. None of this is set in stone, but there have been references by the manager of the Sims franchise and EA Vice President Kate Gorman.
Gorman and Robbie also mentioned EA’s goal to create something as large as the Barbie film. Creating something on par with Barbie will be a difficult task, as it did rank among the highest-grossing films of 2023. However, it is possible for this to be achieved with the combination of producers and the large fanbase that comes with the Sims.

With no current plans to move forward with Sims 5, the game content will not be largely adjusted before the theatrical release, other than a recently announced multiplayer expansion. The Sims 4 is currently available to download for free.
