‘Hind’s Hall’ Comes Back With a New Remix
American rapper Macklemore dropped a new music video, “Hind’s Hall 2,” displaying his continued support for the Palestinian Liberation Movement. The video gained millions of views across all social media platforms.
The video expresses solidarity with the Palestinian people, and the proceeds will go toward the United Nations Relief Agency (UNRWA), which assists Palestinian refugees with basic humanitarian necessities. The remix is a sequel to the original video, “Hind’s Hall,” released in May; however, the remix includes verses from Palestinian American artist Anees, author Amer Zahr, and Palestinian-born rapper MC Abdul, accompanied by the L.A. Palestinian Kids Choir, Tiffany Wilson and Friends and the Lifted, and the Youth Gospel Choir. Famed Palestinian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza provided the song art in the video.
The song’s title, “Hind’s Hall,” was named Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall, which was renamed Hind’s Hall after the 6-year-old Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab, was killed in Gaza by the Israeli Forces.
The message in the video is transparent when he states, “From the river to the sea/Palestine will be free,” calling for a free Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. The Seattle-based rapper made it apparent where his solidarity stands during his performance at the Palestine Will Love Forever Festival in his hometown over the weekend, where the song “Hind’s Hall 2” debuted according to Billboard.
The song contains empowering lyrics, as noted by The Palestinian Chronicle in the main line of the chorus sung by Anees, “In our lifetime we will be free, and they can bury us, but they find out we are seeds,” referencing that Palestine will be free. No matter how hard they bury the movement, it will keep growing.
The scenes embedded in the video have potent images of the war over the last 11 months, from the destruction of infrastructure within Gaza and the West Bank, the production of the video, the Palestinians, and the protests from around the world.
