SZA is the latest musician to take center stage and face off against the hottest wings. In a new look, the singer answers questions wearing bug prosthetics.

SZA is the latest guest star to arrive on Hot Ones. In the exclusive interview, the “Kill Bill” singer discussed relationships, the creative process, and embracing a new style because she “feels like it.” While trying to keep down the hottest sauces, the singer was still expressive in her bugged-out prosthetics. “I’m just tired of being not a bug,” she stated.

SZA is known to write songs about breakups, jealousy, and being the “other woman.” In the interview, the singer opened up about songs in her discography that make the healing process just a tad bit more difficult when trying to emotionally recover from a past loved one. For her song “Nobody Gets Me,” she finds it extremely difficult to perform because of the song’s association with someone who was almost her husband. “‘Nobody Gets Me’ because my ex-fiancé hates me so much, and it’s so unfortunate,” she states. With much speculation surrounding who almost married SZA, her almost marriage still remains a mystery.

In addition, the singer also touched on older tracks from Ctrl that were also difficult to perform. “Every time I sing it, it’s like, ‘D***, what the f–k?'” she continued, adding that she also gets in her feels while singing Ctrl tracks “Normal Girl,” “20 Something” and “Drew Barrymore,” which she mentions reminds her of seeing “the boy you like … f–kin’ on some other girl” at a house party.

While speaking to host Sean Evans, they discussed her hit song “Kill Bill.” Following the success of the song came mixed emotions, particularly about the music industry. Evans brought up how the success of the song “pissed [her] off” because it was “super easy to write.” She explained that the music industry is constantly confused because of how unpredictable it can be. “I never know what’s happening,” she stated on the episode. “I be like, ‘I thought you liked this.’ Then they’re like, ‘No, stupid, we hate this.'”

“It’s abusive, but it’s also very fulfilling and validating,” she added. “The toxic [relationships] are the most fun.”

With sweat dripping down her face and the inability to see, she was trying to push through each wing that came before her. The interview comes before the anticipated release of Lana, her third album which has been teased numerous times since last year. There is no official release date yet, but fans pray an end-of-year or early 2025 release will be announced soon.

Host Sean Evans’ is known for asking intricate, complex questions that get his guests thinking while eating spicy wings, making it near impossible for the guest to concentrate. SZA brought up his “sinister and insidious” intentions for the series but was able to give the host a quick life update towards the end of the episode. “I’m going through a breakup; it’s hot as f–k,” she stated.
