Beyoncé’s country crossover Cowboy Carter will officially compete in the country category at the 2025 GRAMMY Awards after speculation and snubs from other major award shows.

With GRAMMY nominations set to be announced on November 8, the Recording Academy has finalized its screening process, determining which albums and songs will compete in specific categories. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter will officially compete in the country categories at the upcoming awards.

This marks a first for Beyoncé, as her 2016 country track “Daddy Lessons” was previously rejected by the Recording Academy. The news follows the success of her critically acclaimed album Cowboy Carter, which featured the hit single “Texas Hold ‘Em,” the first-ever No. 1 country song by a Black woman. Despite this historic achievement, the album received no nominations at this year’s Country Music Awards.

It's worth noting that while Beyoncé is the most awarded artist in GRAMMY history, most of her wins are in R&B and Hip-Hop categories, with only one major category win, Song of the Year for "Single Ladies" in 2009. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beyoncé could become one of the few artists to receive nominations across a wide range of genres with Cowboy Carter.

“If Beyoncé, the most decorated artist in Grammy history earns a best country album nod, it would be her first in the genre and she would become the rare artist who has scored nominations across multiple genres at the Grammys. At the 2017 show, she made history with Lemonade as the first artist to garner nods in the rock, rap, R&B and pop fields in the same year.” The Hollywood Reporter stated.
