Olivia Rodrigo Donates Proceeds From Philippines ‘GUTS World Tour’ to Jhpiego
During her Manila stop on the “GUTS World Tour,” Olivia Rodrigo donated all net ticket sales to Jhpiego, a nonprofit that improves healthcare for women and girls.
Rodrigo, whose Filipino heritage connects her deeply with the nation, performed at the packed Philippine Arena in Manila. While her powerful vocals and emotional performances stole the show, the real headline came when she revealed her philanthropic intentions.
In a social media post recapping the memorable night, the “Driver’s License” singer wrote, “I got to visit [@jhpiego] while I was in Manila and was so impressed by the work they are doing providing healthcare to women and girls in the Philippines. It was the most special show and the most meaningful trip.”
Jhpiego, a global health nonprofit affiliated with John Hopkins University, has long been a pioneer in women’s healthcare, particularly in low—and middle-income communities. Their programs focus on research on “family planning/reproductive health/women’s cancer; maternal, newborn and child health…[and] HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases.” Rodrigo’s donation is expected to significantly boost these efforts, allowing the organization to expand its reach and impact even further.
This is not the “Vampire” singer’s first time using her platform to make an activist statement, she’s also used her voice to encourage her fans to vote in this year’s upcoming election. She also inspired her followers to vaccinate themselves during the pandemic by visiting the White House and President Joe Biden.
Fans of the pop singer not only admire her for her generosity but the representation she holds for the Filipino community. In a TikTok posted by @livieshq, “Livies” outside of the Philippine Arena expressed why the music icon was so culturally important to them. One follower even exclaimed, “It’s more so about empowerment within our communities and showing that we are here in the face of adversity.”
The musician’s donation not only underscores her commitment to using her platform for good but highlights the growing trend of public figures leveraging their influence for social change. For Jhpiego and Filipinos worldwide, this public action could mean lifesaving care and support.
The “GUTS World Tour” will continue to sweep across continents, but the singer’s legacy in the Philippines may just be defined by this moment of compassion and action.
