Former Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, known for his reluctance to endorse political candidates, has made a surprising move by publicly backing Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of next week’s presidential election.

In a detailed post on X, the governor expressed his general disdain for politics and politicians. He acknowledged, however, that people are interested in his perspective on the upcoming election given his background as a former governor.

“I don’t really do endorsements. I’m not shy about sharing my views, but I hate politics and don’t trust most politicians. I also understand that people want to hear from me because I am not just a celebrity, I am a former Republican Governor,” Schwarzenegger began his statement.

The former governor expressed his support for the vice president, stressing the need to prioritize country over party. He cited a recent comment from Trump, who described America as the “garbage can of the world,” as a tipping point in his decision, calling Trump’s remarks un-American.

“Calling America a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious. And I will always be an American before I am a Republican. That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz,” The governor stated in his post on X.

Schwarzenegger went on to criticize Trump for labeling Americans who don’t support him as “the enemy from within,” asserting that such divisive rhetoric from a leader won’t help solve the country’s issues. He emphasized that it’s time for America to move forward, and he believes electing Kamala Harris is the way to achieve this.

“We need to close the door on this chapter of American history, and I know that former President Trump won’t do that. He will divide, he will insult, he will find new ways to be more un-American than he already has been, and we, the people, will get nothing but more anger,” The former governor continued.

“I want to move forward as a country, and even though I have plenty of disagreements with their platform, I think the only way to do that is with Harris and Walz,” Schwarzenegger concluded.
