On April 19, Taylor Swift released her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. After describing this album as a “lifeline,” Swift has once again achieved a huge milestone. The singer is the first-ever artist in Spotify history to have six albums reach six billion streams, The Tortured Poets Department being one of them. The album falls among her other five, Lover, Midnights, 1989, reputation, and folklore.

Since the release of the album, The Tortured Poets Department has shattered records. Spotify released a statement on X, “History Made! On April 19, 2024, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department was the first album in Spotify history to have over 300M streams in a single day.”

Also, her song “Fortnight” on the album featuring Post Malone broke the record of most streamed song in a single day. The original record was set with Adele’s “Easy on Me” back in 2021.

Taylor Swift took to Instagram to unveil a description of the album. “An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure,” Swift captioned, “This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.”

Knowing TTPD is Taylor Swift’s latest album, Swifties can’t help but wonder whether or not she will get awards for it. Billboard has analyzed the success the artist has gained throughout her career, and what her competition would consist of in the upcoming year. Alex Tear, Vice President of Music Programming for SiriusXM and Pandora, has mentioned “It’s really going to be a highly competitive year.” Artists such as Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter are all “strong contenders for the marquee award.”

The Tortured Poets Department is currently available, and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is now streaming on Disney+.
