On November 18, British pop star Charli xcx held a pop-up concert in Times Square. This surprise stunt is part of a marketing plan in collaboration with clothing retailer H&M.

H&M and the Brat star planned a free last-minute surprise concert for all Charli xcx fans. The clothing retailer made a post on their social media, 30 minutes before the actual event, stating that the “360” singer would be performing at their event. At the event in honor of their Holiday collection, the singer wore some of H&M’s new pieces, which the brand exclaimed would “make history in Times Square.”

The singer performed a 15-minute set of top songs from her chart-topping album, Brat. The set included “360,” “Apple,” “Von Dutch,” and other viral songs from her album. Not long after, fans started posting videos, pictures, and memes from the performance in Times Square on social media.

The “Guess” singer has been on the rise of stardom since 2008 but is now making headway since the release of her album, Brat, in June. Since its debut, it has topped at No.3 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Dance/Electronic Albums chart. Brat was also nominated for multiple Grammy awards including Album of the Year.

The album even started an internet trend, “Brat summer” or “Brat girl summer,” which means the freedom to party and express yourself all with a “brat” attitude. The phrase became viral even to the extent that former Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris adopted the phrase as part of the campaign’s brand.

The album’s popularity also allowed the singer to do a double stunt of hosting and performing on the comedy skit show Saturday Night Live (SNL) over the weekend.

The “Brat” trend has dominated pop culture, with fans dressing up as Charli xcx and her infamous characters from her concerts. Fans were thrilled about the free performance from the British performer. Hopefully, there is more in store for the Brat artist.
