It’s Official: XO, Kitty Returns for Season 2 on Netflix
The Netflix hit romantic dramedy, XO Kitty, is returning for season two on January 16, 2025. The main character, Kitty Song-Covey (Anna Cathcart), will be returning for the second season, or “new semester,” at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS).
In a TikTok video, the streaming service posted the second season announcement with a voice exclaiming, “Kitty is coming back,” with Kitty, whipping her head around towards the camera and yelling, “When?” The YA series was renewed for a second season four weeks after gaining 72 million hours of viewing within the first week of its premiere.
The series is centered around the protagonist, Kitty Song-Covey, the younger sister of Laura Jean Covey from the hit film series To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. The gullible teen takes a chance on love when she applies to KISS to be with her longtime long-distance boyfriend, Dae (Minyeong Choi). Viewers can follow the teen’s story as she takes on teen life, drama, friendship, and romance.
The series comes as a spinoff of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy, created by Jenny Han, the author of the book series, and Jessica O’Toole, the writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Awesomeness Studios and Matt Kaplan of ACE Entertainment also contribute to the series.
In season two, Kitty returns to KISS, newly single and ready to mingle while trying to escape the typical teen drama. However, Kitty is destined to embark on a new adventure around Seoul after finding a letter from her late mother. The vibrant teen will endure love, friendships, and adventure as she takes on a new semester at KISS.
The new season comes a year and a half after the premiere of season one when the audience was left at a cliffhanger when Kitty developed feelings for her frenemy-turned-friend Yuri (Gia Kim), which caused her to break up with her boyfriend, Dae. However, there were a couple of plot twists in the final episode when Yuri’s ex, Julianna (Regan Aliyah), returns and Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee), Kitty’s former nemesis and roommate, also confesses that he has feelings for Kitty.
Fans of the series can expect a return of old faces and the appearance of new faces in season two of XO Kitty. The series’ plot will remain the same as it focuses on Kitty’s love life. “There’s so much more to Kitty and so much more to her story and her life,” Cathcart stated in an interview, continuing to express, “I think it’s cool just to show that a lot of types of love are important to her, even family love.”
Season two of XO, Kitty will stream on Netflix on January 16, 2025. Until then, season one is currently available on Netflix.
