JENNI, directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero, is a heartfelt biopic honoring the late Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera. The film will premiere in select theaters and on ViX on December 6.

Rivera, who tragically passed away at just 43 years old, left a profound legacy within the Hispanic community. From inspiring hits like Becky G’s “My Man” to breaking barriers in the male-dominated Banda genre, her story is one of resilience and determination. Director Guerrero brings Rivera’s extraordinary journey to the big screen, capturing her spirit and struggles.

Annie Gonzalez, known for her roles in Flamin’ Hot and Gentefied, takes on the challenging role of Rivera, portraying the singer’s triumphs and trials up until her untimely passing.

JENNI also shows the struggles that she endured in her personal life and how she became the artist fans all know and love today, and how she persevered and found strength from within,” stated the press release. “This story of resilience and bravery shows the building blocks of what made Jenni Rivera who she was and the remarkable legacy she left behind.”

The trailer opens with Gonzalez, as Rivera, performing her iconic song “La Chacalosa” in a club, boldly stating, “My life ain’t no fairytale.” It highlights Rivera’s struggles with teen pregnancy, encounters with the law, and her relentless pursuit of success. The narrative then shifts to showcase her pride as a mother and her meteoric rise to fame. The trailer closes with a reminder that JENNI will be available in select theaters and on ViX starting December 6.

“When I read the script, I was drawn to the woman behind the microphone. It was her heart and soul that made her who she was and what the story is about,” Gonzalez explained. “The story takes place before her fame and explores what led to it, which I identified with. There’s so much in her journey that I’ve either experienced or know others who have. It felt like such an important story because we see Jenni as this chingona, this peleona, this fighter, this force. But what we don’t often see, behind every strong woman, is all the struggles and battles that shaped her. To portray her, I just pulled from my own life.”

JENNI is set to captivate audiences with its raw and inspiring narrative. Be sure to check for screenings in select theaters or stream the film on ViX starting December 6.
