Normani and Khalid Announce Their New Single ‘Personal’
Six years since their last collaboration, “Love Lies,” Normani and Khalid have reunited to give fans their new single on December 6.
When “Love Lies” was released on Valentine’s Day in 2018, the three-minute R&B track had fans wanting more. Six years later, they got what they asked for. It all started when Khalid took to social media to announce his collaboration with Normani on their upcoming single, “Personal.” The video displays former Fifth Harmony singer, Normani and Khalid singing to a snippet of the unreleased song.
“So sensual, and you know I can never stay mad at you,” sang Khalid before taking the phone and filming Normani. Normani dances in front of the green backdrop while singing, “Put your body on my body, get personal.” The video then pans over to an individual holding a fan before Normani, while her hair beautifully sways in the wind. The clip was posted onto social media, captioned, “The door is open/You don’t even need a key/You’ve been pushing on me so relentlessly,” a lyric Normani sings in one of her parts.
With “Personal” coming out this Friday, fans are reminiscing about their last collaboration, which took the world by storm. The “Love Lies” collaboration peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Pop Songs Airplay Chart and broke the record for the longest-standing duet to make it to the number one spot on the pop chart at 24 weeks.

The song was also certified two-time platinum by the RIAA and was featured in the Love, Simon soundtrack. In an exclusive interview with Billboard after the release of “Love Lies,” Normani spoke out about her friendship with Khalid and the song’s impact.
“To have a record that I cared so deeply about with Khalid — he’s one of my closest friends… We knew that the song felt good, but we didn’t necessarily know… you hope for the best, but you really don’t know,” she detailed. “So it’s just really cool to see it soaring and spreading its wings and doing so amazing and connecting with so many people. It’s been awesome.”
