A new poster for the biopic A Complete Unknown, featuring Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, leaves fans ecstatic for its Christmas Day release.

Back in 2020, Chalamet was announced as the lead, portraying the life and career of Dylan. However, with delays due to COVID-19 and the SAG-AFTRA strike, many were left curious as to when the filming would kick back up. Now, almost four years later, the posters for the biopic have now been revealed, with fans of the singer-songwriter and the actor portraying him counting down the days until December 25.

The new poster revealed on the A Complete Unknown social media accounts show Chalamet playing a guitar with a harmonica in a neck holder. The actor is dressed exactly as Dylan, with a black leather jacket and a brown button-up.

“He Defied Everyone To Change Everything,” is seen on the top-left corner of the poster, hinting the ups and downs Bob Dylan encountered throughout his life which will be showcased in the film. The poster gives credit to James Mangold, the mastermind and director behind the film, and Jay Cocks, who worked alongside Mangold for the screenplay. Co-stars Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, and Boyd Holbrook are all mentioned on the poster as well.

The impact of the film’s release is yet to be determined, however, “Dylanologists” who have seen the trailer have had some pretty positive commentary regarding Chalamet’s performance. “The way he strums, the way his right hand is moving on the strings, is perfect,” details Anne Margaret Daniel, a music professor who teaches a class on Dylan’s work.

Some Dylanologists have focused on whats to come regarding Dylan being recognized as an artist, with Laura Tenschert believing “A film like this is a great opportunity for people to connect with what is charismatic about him and what is special about him.”

Ahead of its public release, critics who have seen the biopic have had mostly positive reactions while a few have been a mixed response. Scott Menzel, a film critic, believes Chalamet “delivers the performance of the year,” and is “A true tour-de-force where Chalamet is never seen. Chalamet’s performance is not just about the voice and look but rather all of the little nuances and mannerisms that he perfectly brings to his life in his portrayal of Bob Dylan. Great supporting performances too from Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez and Edward Norton as Pete Seeger.” On the other hand, Ryan Swen, a Los Angeles film critic stated on X; “Not terrible but often unsuccessful,” and “frequently incoherent/inaccurate.”

In about three weeks, audiences will be able to watch A Complete Unknown in theaters. Until then, we can study the trailer and analyze posters before December 25.
