Everything You Need to Know About Britney Spears’ New Biopic
Director Jon M. Chu has confirmed that Britney Spears will be “very involved” in the making of her highly anticipated biopic, giving fans even more reason to be excited.
The film will be based on Spears’ record-breaking memoir, The Woman in Me, which details her incredible career, challenging childhood, and widely publicized relationships. The book sold over 2.5 million copies across the U.S. and quickly became the fastest-selling audiobook in Simon & Schuster’s history. In 2023, it was also the number-one audiobook on Spotify and a New York Times bestseller.

Universal Pictures has secured the rights to the biopic, with Chu revealing in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that, while the project is still in its early stages, Spears’ involvement is a priority. “I haven’t really started anything fully yet, but she will be very involved in this. I have ideas and things, an approach, but it’s very early,” Chu shared.
As soon as news of the biopic broke, fans began buzzing with suggestions for who should play Spears. Popular names include Sydney Sweeney, Addison Rae, Dove Cameron, Sabrina Carpenter, and Millie Bobby Brown. Chu is keeping an open mind about the casting process, acknowledging the fan enthusiasm. “I’ve seen all fan castings and I always take those into consideration because maybe there’s a good idea out there,” he stated. “But we’ll have to see what the approach of the movie is before we know who’s right for it.”
Chu has expressed his admiration for Spears, stating in an interview with Billboard, “I’m a big fan of Britney. I’ve been a fan since I was young, and she was young, performing as one of 12 acts at the Shrine Auditorium. I want to do her justice and tell her story right. But we’ll see. We’re developing it now, and it’s a long road ahead.”
Spears has shown excitement for the collaboration, stating in September that it’s “flattering to be in such good company like Jon Chu.”
