Jimmy Kimmel Opens Up on Heartbreaking New L.A. Wildfires
Jimmy Kimmel delivered an emotional monologue during the recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! in which he addressed the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
“As you know, it has been a very scary, very stressful, very strange week here in L.A., where we work, where we live, and where our kids go to school,” Kimmel remarked, with a shaky voice during his monologue. “We are back at our studio. We had to evacuate on Wednesday.”
He shared footage of how close the fire came to where the series films. He noted that many members of the production crew had to evacuate from their residences, while some lost their homes to the fires.
The host continued, “I think I speak for all of us when I say it has been a sickening, shocking, awful experience. But it has also been, in a lot of ways, a beautiful experience, because once again, we see our fellow men and women coming together to support each other. People who lost their own homes were out volunteering in parking lots helping others who lost theirs.”
“It’s been terrible,” he stated emotionally. “Everyone who lives in this city knows someone. Most of us know multiple people—family, friends, colleagues, neighbors—whose houses have burned down. The truth is we don’t even know if it’s over.”
The host then went on to thank all of the LA firefighters who were the first on the scene. “Without hesitation, they were out there putting out the fires as best they could,” he expressed.
He thanked firefighters from states and countries, including Maine, Mexico, and Canada. Kimmel continued to thank police officers, national guards, rescue workers, doctors, nurses, EMTs, and the pilots working 12-hour shifts.
“Thank God for all of you,” Kimmel proclaimed
