Sabrina Carpenter’s sultry single “Bed Chem” has reached a milestone of over 400 million listens on Spotify.

During her appearance on NPR’s “Tiny Desk,” Carpenter revealed the idea behind the flirty song. At a sleepover with her best friend Paloma, the two would “fall asleep at the exact same time. No one had to say, ‘Okay I think we should probably head to sleep now.’ We both just shut our eyes, went to bed, shut up, and then no one was kicking, no one was snoring. We both woke up with the same… Like you know when you roll over and it’s very peaceful and you’re like, ‘Good morning’. You don’t have to punch them to wake them up. She just woke up, and I was like, ‘We have really good bed chem,'” she shared.

The single is a nod to the songs the singer herself grew up listening to. “I love Christina [Aguilera]. That was one of my very first idols and icons. I was 11 years old, and you couldn’t get her name out of my mouth. She’s very special to me. Those songs raised me,” the artist stated

At the “Short n’ Sweet Tour,” “Bed Chem” has taken critics by storm for its racey outro. The singer disappears behind a sheer curtain with one or two male dancers. Their silhouettes are projected as they portray the song’s lyrics, which typically include them removing their clothes and falling onto the mattress.

Firing back, Carpenter discussed, “It’s unfortunate that it’s ever been something to criticise, because truthfully, the scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it’s nothing. If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that’s what you’ve got to do.”

You can listen to “Bed Chem” on all streaming platforms.
