COIN Lead Singer Announces New Band Split on Instagram
COIN lead singer, Chase Lawrence, announced on Instagram on Tuesday that he and guitarist Joe Memmel, would be parting ways. This news came just 11 days after announcing the departure of their drummer, Ryan Winnen.
Lawrence opened his apology for the band’s breakup by explaining that his decision stemmed from his belief in “accountability and doing what’s right.”
He shared that the actions of his bandmates “directly conflict with [his] values” and expressed sympathy for anyone who had been affected by such actions. Subsequently, Lawrence Canceled the remainder of their tour , which was set to resume in Denver, Colorado, on February 8.
On January 17, the band posted that Winnen had stepped away in November 2024 to focus on personal matters. They expressed that a new drummer would be joining them to complete their tour, marking their first time playing without a founding member
COIN formed in 2012 when Lawrence, Memmel, and Winnen were students at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. They gained popularity with their singles “Talk Too Much” and “Chapstick.” The band’s bassist, Zachary Dyke, left the group in 2018.
No official statements or evidence have emerged regarding the misconduct allegations against Winnen and Memmel. However, rumors have been circulating around social media since Winnen’s departure announcement, leaving fans confused and upset.

Although fans will continue to grieve the end of COIN, Lawrence declared in the Instagram post that he’s not done making music yet. He also expressed deep regret to fanbase.
“To our listeners, I am sorry for the disappointment this may bring,” Lawrence wrote. “Your support has meant the world to me, and I owe it to you to be honest and decisive in addressing this situation.”
Band break-ups are always difficult , but fans have been responsive and supportive of Lawrence’s post. Many have expressed their gratitude for his accountability and decision to distance himself for ethical reasons from his former bandmates.
i’m absolutely heartbroken about coin disbanding, they’ve consistently been in my top five for the last few years. but good for chase for taking accountability and splitting from those two. i’ll be awaiting whatever chase has planned for his future in music

Anyone who purchased tickets for COIN’s 2025 North American tour will receive refunds.
Until Lawrence forms a new band or releases solo music, Coin fans may experience what Directioners felt in 2015. Extra sympathy goes out to any Coin-loving Directioners, who must be taking this especially hard.
