Sydney Sweeney Leads Cast of New Film, ‘The Housemaid’
Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are set to star in the highly anticipated film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s 2022 thriller, The Housemaid.
Directed by Paul Feig, the film is expected to hit theaters December, 2025. Both Sweeney and Seyfried will serve as executive producers, adding even more excitement for fans. McFadden, who is also an executive producer and a physician specializing in brain surgery, shared her enthusiasm on Instagram.
Storyline and Cast
The film follows Wilhelmina “Millie” Calloway (Sydney Sweeney), a struggling young woman who takes a job as a maid for a wealthy couple. However, she discovers that Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar) are hiding secrets far more dangerous than her own.
The adaptation aims to stay true to McFadden’s best-selling novel, which spent two weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list and won the 2023 International Thriller Writers Award for Best Paperback Original Novel.
Lionsgate’s President of Production Erin Westerman praised the casting choices, stating, “They’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away.”
Additional cast members include Michele Morrone as Enzo, the mysterious groundskeeper, and Indiana Elle, whose role remains undisclosed.
Behind the Scenes
Celebrated director Paul Feig is at the helm of the film. In October 2024, he teased fans with hints about the production. Filming took place in Ridgewood, Montclair, and Cresskill, New Jersey, with additional scenes shot at Rutt’s Hut, a famous hot dog restaurant that also appeared in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.
The screenplay is written by Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum, the writing duo behind Dumb Money, ensuring a sharp and compelling adaptation.
