Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan’s When Harry Met Sally Commercial Out Now
Yes! Yes! Yes! Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are finally back at Katz Deli as Harry and Sally, and we’ll have what they’re having.
The iconic duo reunited to recreate their famous fake orgasm scene from the classic rom-com When Harry Met Sally as a Super Bowl commercial for, of all things, Hellmann’s mayonnaise.
After more than 35 years since the film’s release, the characters’ humorous banter picks up right where it left off. Harry, dressed in his signature white sweater, utters, “I can’t believe they let us back into this place.”
“Why,” Sally asks, to which Harry responds, “Hello…”
“Nobody remembers that,” resists Sally, referring to the iconic scene in the film where Sally fakes an orgasm in the deli to prove to Harry that he has most likely slept with a woman who has faked it.
Sally then takes a bite of her sandwich but admits it’s “not doing it” for her. After squeezing a generous amount of mayonnaise onto her bread, she signals her approval by re-enacting her excitement from the original scene.
Harry quips, “This one’s real,” adding playfully, “Lunch and a show, huh? How about that?”
The camera then pans to Anyone But You actress Sydney Sweeny, who sits wide-eyed at the table next to them and delivers the legendary line, “I’ll have what she’s having.”
Crystal and Ryan teased a When Harry Met Sally reunion about a week ago, sharing on Instagram a picture of the two of them seated on a couch with the caption, “It’s finally happening, we’re reuniting for something iconic. Can’t wait to show you all soon.”
With the commercial now released, Crystal tells People, “It was our 35th anniversary of the film, and it’s the first time that we’ve been offered something like that. It was a really fun idea, and the approach was right.”
“They were so respectful of the movie and of the scene too,” Ryan agrees. “They came to us with just an enormous amount of respect for that, for the source material and for the characters.”
As for being reunited in the New York deli, Crystal shares, “It felt the same.”

Director of the commercial Jake Szymanski comments on Sydney Sweeny’s cameo at the Hellmann’s premiere noting, “There was some talk early on about who are we gonna get for the cameo role? Who’s going to end the spot? It’s such an iconic line, and When Harry Met Sally … is such an iconic rom-com and a moment for Meg, obviously, that we’re re-creating. And I kind of like that Sydney is emerging as this new rom-com star … so I like that it was kind of like a mini passing of the torch to the next generation to have her at the end.”
This Super Bowl commercial pays homage to a classic rom-com while simultaneously welcoming a new wave of romantic comedy stars to the genre.
After a long-awaited When Harry Met Sally reunion, fans finally got what they had been waiting for. Out of all the things that could have brought Harry and Sally back to life, who would have thought it would be Hellmann’s mayonnaise?
