Julien Baker and TORRES Release New Music Video and Announce Album

Indie-rock musicians Julien Baker and TORRES have released the music video for their song “Sylvia” and announced their new album, Send a Prayer My Way, set to release on April 18.

“Sylvia,” released on Wednesday, January 29, marks the duo’s second collaborative song following “Sugar in the Tank,” which they performed last month on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

After much speculation from fans, the pair have officially confirmed Send a Prayer My Way, their first full-length collaborative album. The album, a departure into country music for both artists, will feature 12 tracks, including “Sugar in the Tank” and “Sylvia.” Fans can now pre-order the album, merch, and tour tickets on their official website.

On the inspiration behind “Sylvia,” TORRES shared, “The morning I went to pick up Sylvia from an upstate shelter, I was at home making my coffee and I turned on WFMU and Dolly Parton’s “Cracker Jack” was on. I burst into tears—it felt like the universe was telling me she was going to be mine (Sylvia was only meant to be a foster). I remember thinking that I’d love to write a song like that, a song that people could feel in their chest within five seconds of turning on the radio, because anyone who has ever had the honor of sharing a home with a beloved pet knows that a pet is family—they’re the best friends you could ever have.”

While Send a Prayer My Way marks the first full album collaboration between Baker and TORRES, Baker is no stranger to group projects. In addition to her solo career, she is a member of the critically acclaimed band Boygenius, alongside fellow musicians Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus.

TORRES revealed that the duo has been working on the album for five years. After years of hints and teases, fans are thrilled to have an official album release date. Excitement is evident in social media comments, with fans posting messages such as, “Been so buzzed for this since you told us on your Patreon a few years ago,” and “Y’all just kill it every time!! Can’t wait for the whole album!”
