The series follows several couples who decide to put the strength of their relationship to the ultimate test. Male contestants are placed into a villa with a group of single women, while female contestants are living in a villa with a group of single men.
In the end, the contestants will face a big decision. They will either leave with the person they came in with, leave with one of the singles as a new couple, or return home alone.
“Emotions run high when four couples, all at a crossroads in their relationship, head to Temptation Island to put their love to the ultimate test as they agree to live separately with a group of singles of the opposite sex,” the Netflix logline stated. “Will the choices they make push the couples closer together or farther apart into the arms of a new lover?”
Mark L. Walberg returns as host for the revival of the series. Walberg has hosted Temptation Island since its debut in 2001.
The series originally premiered on Fox in 2001, running for three seasons, with its final season airing in 2003.
Despite its controversial premise, The New York Times reported back in 2001 that the series premiere amassed about 16 million viewers. IMDb put the initial series’s rating at a 3.5 out of 10.
In 2019, NBCUniversal revived series. It aired on USA Network for five seasons, running until 2023. IMDb put the reboot’s rating at 6.1 out of 10.
Banijay Studios North America produces the series, with David Friedman and David Goldberg serving as executive producers.
Temptation Island joins a growing list of reality dating series on Netflix, including Love Is Blind, Too Hot to Handle, The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, Perfect Match, and more.
