2025 Critics Choice Awards: What Happened and Who Won

Universal Pictures

The Critics Choice Awards were hosted in Santa Monica on Friday after being delayed twice due to the wildfires that ravaged California.

The ceremony began with host Chelsea Handler recognizing the city of Los Angeles and the other areas impacted by the devastating wildfires. She proceeded to thank all of the first responders who put their lives on the line to put out the wildfires.

The biggest award of the night, Best Picture, went to Anora. Wicked, Emilia Pérez, and The Substance received several honors throughout the night.

Adrien Brody won Best Actor for The Brutalist while Demi Moore won Best Actress for her part in The Substance. Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, but he was not in attendance. Zoe Saldaña won Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez. Emilia Pérez won both Best Foreign Language Film and Best Song.

After being left off the Oscars’ Best Director nominee list, the crowd cheered loudly as Jon M. Chu won Best Director for Wicked. The film also won Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.

In addition to Moore’s win for Best Actress, The Substance grabbed wins for Best Original Screenplay and Best Hair and Makeup.

A Real Pain won two awards, including a tie. The film tied with Deadpool & Wolverine for Best Comedy.

In the realm of television awards, Shōgun dominated with four awards. Hacked followed with three wins.
