Marvel released the second and new trailer for its highly anticipated team-up film, Thunderbolts, which is set to hit theaters on May 2.
The new trailer, released during the Super Bowl LIX broadcast, gave fans a glimpse of what to expect from the blockbuster film. Within the two-minute and 23-second trailer, fans gained more details about how the team will function after being put together by CIA operative Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Additionally, fans received a direct look at the antagonist, Sentry. Lewis Pullman’s Sentry is set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in a big way when he clashes with the Thunderbolts.
Who are the Thunderbolts?
The Thunderbolts are a team of former villains turned antiheroes looking to make amends for their crimes. The team comprises six characters from prior films and TV series, such as Black Widow, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Each member is portrayed by a high-level or rising actor and actress.
Here’s what the full character/cast list looks like:
- Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan)
- Black Widow/Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh)
- U.S. Agent/John Walker (Wyatt Russell)
- Red Guardian/Alexi Shostakov (David Harbour)
- Taskmaster/Antonia Dreykov (Olga Kurylenko)
- Ghost/Mel (Geraldine Viswanathan)
- The Sentry/Robert Reynolds (Lewis Pullman)
- Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis Dreyfus)

An interesting aspect of the film is that Marvel has decided to shake it up from the comic book version, which typically features characters like Baron Zemo and the Red Hulk. When Marvel announced the film, rumors circulated that both members would be part of the group, but those rumors were shut down once director Jake Schreier and producer Kevin Feige announced the team during D23 in August.
Along with the new trailer, Marvel announced they have collaborated with Wheaties cereal to create a limited-time box. The box gives small nods to the film’s theme by writing, “Everyone deserves a second chance,” at the top, alongside the names of all the characters on the ingredient list at the bottom.
