IFPI Announces New 2024 Top 10 Global Recording Artists
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has unveiled its annual list of the top ten global recording artists of 2024, featuring musicians such as Taylor Swift, Drake, Billie Eilish, and more.
IFPI, the organization representing the global music industry, compiles the top ten list based on various factors, including worldwide streaming, physical sales, and digital downloads. The 2024 ranking, announced on February 18, reflects the artists having the biggest commercial impact over the past year.
The final list is as follows:
- Taylor Swift
- Drake
- SEVENTEEN
- Billie Eilish
- Stray Kids
- Zach Bryan
- The Weeknd
- Eminem
- Kendrick Lamar
- Sabrina Carpenter
With Swift securing the number one spot, she made history as the first artist to win five times. She previously topped the list in 2014, 2019, 2022, and 2023. Over the past decade, the “Folklore” singer has shared the top ranking with artists such as Adele, Drake, Ed Sheeran, One Direction, and BTS.
Her dominance this year came from a mix of ongoing success with Midnights, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), and her record-breaking ‘Eras Tour,’ which shattered attendance and revenue records across multiple continents.
Meanwhile, Drake held strong in second place, bolstered by his album For All the Dogs and his highly publicized rap battle with Kendrick Lamar, who landed at number nine. Their back-and-forth diss tracks generated significant attention, leading to surges in streaming numbers for both artists.
K-pop acts SEVENTEEN and Stray Kids continue to rise, fueled by dedicated global fandoms and strong album sales. SEVENTEEN’s Seventeenth Heaven was a massive success, while Stray Kids continued their streak of chart-topping releases, proving the enduring worldwide appeal of K-pop.
Billie Eilish’s introspective Hit Me Hard and Soft album cemented her in fourth place, while country star Zach Bryan saw an impressive rise thanks to his self-titled album and many hit collaborations, including I Remember Everything with Kacey Musgraves.
The Weeknd, a streaming powerhouse, secured number seven, while Eminem’s resurgence—fueled by nostalgia and a tease of new music—landed him at number eight. Rounding out the list, Sabrina Carpenter capitalized on her growing pop stardom with Short n’ Sweet and her viral hit “Espresso.”
