A Look Into The Lumineers’ New Album Automatic
The Lumineers released their new album Automatic on February 14. This follows the release of their single “Same Old Song.”
Automatic features 11 songs, running a total of 32 minutes, featuring “Same Old Song,” “A**hole,” “Strings,” “Automatic,” “You’re All I Got,” “Plasticine,” “Ativan,” “Keys on the Table,” “Better Day,” “Sunflowers,” and “So Long.” The album aligns with the band’s genre of music, alternative folk and indie.
In a statement made on Instagram, lead vocalist and guitarist Wesley Schultz expresses, “This album marks 20 years of songwriting between @jeremiahfraites and me. The album explores some of the absurdities of the modern world, like the increasingly blurry line between what’s real and what’s not, and the variety of ways we numb ourselves while trying to combat both boredom and overstimulation.”
Schultz adds in an album press statement that they are “traveling new sonic and thematic terrain with their most raw and personal collection thus far.” The entirety of the long-play album was recorded in “less than a month.”
The folk band celebrated their album’s release with a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 14. They sang the “Same Old Song” surrounded by orange lights and old television sets with the album cover displayed on them. Their performance was similar to the essence of their music video, which radiates a nostalgic and comfortable energy.
The song was recorded with producer, songwriter, and keyboardist David Baron, who “outfitted Woodstock’s Utopia studio like the legendary Abbey Road facility, installing both vintage and cutting-edge gear,” where the pair performed the song “as a unit, leaving fewer opportunities to fix mistakes or refine the sound.”
The Lumineers are ready to sing along with fans in person with their “Automatic World Tour.” They will be joined by special guests Young the Giant, St. Vincent, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, The Head and The Heart, Lake Street Dive, Vance Joy, The Backseat Lovers, Dr. Dog, Hippo Campus, Tom Odell, and Chance Peña. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 21, and can be purchased here.
Automatic can be streamed on all music streaming platforms.
