Tate McRae attended Spotify’s Listening Event for her upcoming album, So Close to What, where she participated in a Q&A for fans.

McRae and TikTok star Jake Shane held a Q&A at her listening event where he asked the big questions on the fans’ minds.

Arguably one of the biggest topics on fans’ minds is her collaboration with her boyfriend, The Kid LAROI. He asked the singer to describe how it came to be.

She mentioned she wanted someone to feature on the track with her. LAROI responded and offered to sing a verse. After he recorded his verse, they knew they wanted to make something even better.

“We were like, ‘We should try and beat this,'” she stated. “I feel like that’s always the goal is you write a song and then you’re like, ‘we should try and beat this.'”

Before they knew it, they had a collaboration to feature on her album. The song, titled “I Know Love,” is the ninth track on the album.

The “greedy” singer talked about how the process of creating a song together was interesting, as the couple hadn’t sung in front of each other the way some other couples might, but in the end, she enjoyed the journey.

“It was a cool experience to like watch him and his process,” the “2 hands” singer stated.

During the conversation, she revealed that “Miss Possessive” was the first song added to the album’s tracklist. McRae’s world tour is named after the track, leading Shane to ask if she knew she wanted to give the tour the same name.

“No, it just felt right,” the artist stated.

Recently, the star added 23 dates to the “Miss Possessive Tour.” Three shows were added in the United Kingdom alongside numerous dates added to the United States.

So Close to What drops Friday, February 21, with a release party held the same day at Kia Forum, where McRae is expected to perform. The album can be pre-ordered here.
