Gomez received ten nominations, including for song and album of the year, tying for the most nominations of the night with Mexican singer Carin León.

She stated on the magenta carpet, “My latest albums have been [in the genre of] Mexican music, and my album ESQUINAS, which is the first one [in the genre of regional Mexican music], was nominated this year. I felt in my heart, especially within these times, to dedicate this song to my dear grandparents because I would not be in this position without them.”

The Mexican-American singer dedicated the sierreño song to her grandfather Miguel, who passed away in 2021, delivering an emotional performance to an already tear-jerking song.

The performance of “Querido Abuelo,” which has the lyric “Dearest grandpa / your sombrero stays in the same place,” starts off with a spotlight on a lone sombrero hanging on the wall behind her.

Darkness surrounds her as she sings in Spanish, “Dearest grandpa / your memory is here in my soul forever / I’d give everything / to feel and hug you one more time.”

The darkness is overtaken by childhood photos of her with her grandparents as she laments not having spent more time with them. Towards the end, the Billboard Latin Music Award winner looks up above, and two sombreros are revealed behind her. She puts one on and holds the other to her heart as her grandparents’ voices announce from above, “We are so proud of you / We ask God to care for and bless you / And don’t stop saying you come from humble people.”

After her performance, she honored her grandparents upon winning an award in the category of Mariachi/Ranchera Song of the Year for her song “Por El Contrario” with Ángela Aguilar and Leonardo Aguilar.

She emphasized, “This song, this album, ESQUINAS, was more than an album. To me, it was an opportunity to connect with my roots, and I also want to dedicate it to my grandparents. I’m a granddaughter of immigrants, proudly Chicana with Mexican blood from Inglewood, and this is for all of you.”
