In his viral tunnel clip, Pierre smiled and rocked his hips, syncing his steps to the beat of a backstage member’s claps as they sang him a custom song: “Aaron Pierre, that’s Mufasa.” His performance, which garnered over 66 million views on The Jennifer Hudson Show page, led to the comment section being turned off due to his “too hot to handle” appearance.
At the American Black Film Festival Honors on Monday, February 17, the 30-year-old Mufasa: The Lion King star responded, “Did she?” after PEOPLE revealed The Jennifer Hudson Show host’s decision.
Pierre, who was nearly speechless, laughing and stating, “Well, that’s the first time I’ve heard that and I don’t know what to say.”
Despite the overwhelming reaction, he told PEOPLE, “But at the end of the day, it’s all love,” adding, “I really believe it’s all very joyful. I receive that and I’m grateful for that. You know, it’s a special thing. So, thank you.”
At the annual awards season gala held at Los Angeles’ SLS Hotel, where he received the Rising Star Award, Pierre laughed and stated, “Well, that’s the first time I’ve heard that and I don’t know what to say.”
