Another Simple Favor Trailer Takes Revenge to Italy
Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are back in the sequel to A Simple Favor. The trailer will see the two reunite for a lavish wedding on a remote Italian island.
Amazon MGM Studios has shared a first look at the sequel to the 2018 dark comedy/thriller A Simple Favor, based on the 2017 novel by the same name by Darcey Bell. Mommy vlogger Stephanie Smothers befriends Emily Nelson, a mysterious upper-class woman whose son is the same age as hers. When Emily suddenly disappears, Stephanie takes it upon herself to investigate—only to realize how little she truly knows about her friend.
Where we last left off, Smothers and Nelson did not end the last film on the best of terms. Mommy blogger Smothers used her blog to expose Nelson’s double life and her involvement in the murders of her sister and father. As a result, Nelson was sent to prison, while Smothers popularity rose, and she became a part-time private detective.
Another Simple Favor jumps forward a few years. Smothers has published a true crime book, The Faceless Blonde, but her book launch takes an unexpected turn when its subject crashes the event. She is sure Nelson wants revenge for taking her life and family. However, to everyone’s surprise, Nelson asks Smothers to be her maid of honor.
According to the film’s Letterboxd logline, they fly to the island of Cari, Italy, for an extravagant destination wedding. While we’re not sure how Nelson escaped prison after being sentenced to twenty years at the end of A Simple Favor, she has somehow become a wealthy Italian businesswoman.
Smothers is understandably skeptical of Emily’s return, and the trailer proves her right. The shot of Nelson the unblushing bride with a train dipped in blood—seemingly the opposite of her secretive behavior in the last film.
Other returning characters from A Simple Favor include Nelson’s (now ex-) husband, Sean Townsend (Henry Golding), and her son, Nicky (Ian Ho), Smothers’ son Miles (Joshua Satine) and friend Darren (Andrew Rannells), Stacy (Kelly McCormack) and Detective Summerville (Bashir Salahuddin).
New faces joining the cast are Tony Award winner Alex Newell and Academy Award winner Allison Janney, Elena Sofia Ricci, Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, Taylor Ortega, Lorenzo de Moor, and Aparna Nancherla.
Another Simple Favor premieres March 7 on Prime Video.
