Season 18 of Criminal Minds, also the third season of Criminal Minds: Evolution, releases in May.

Criminal Minds: Evolution was renewed for another season with the announcement just a few months before the revival’s season 3 release. This is season 19 of the overall series.

Season 18 is set six months after Elias Voit, the Sicarius Killer, is attacked by prisoners, which causes his online followers on the dark web to create nationwide chaos.

“In order to stop this nefarious group from killing more innocents, the BAU is forced to work alongside an increasingly unpredictable Voit who has his own agenda,” the logline states.

The upcoming season has 10 episodes, with the first one premiering on May 8. The remainder of the episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays.

Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Paget Brewster, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, RJ Hatanaka, and Zach Gilford are all set to reprise their roles.

Matthew Gray Gubler is also set to appear in the third season of the series. Revealed back in December, he’s set to reprise his role as Dr. Spencer Reid for one episode. The storyline for Dr. Reid’s appearance has not been revealed.

Criminal Minds: Evolution is produced by CBS Studios and 20th Television. The series’ showrunner, Erica Messer, is an executive producer. She produces alongside Breen Frazier, Mark Gordon, Glenn Kershaw, and Chris Barbour.

The original series premiered in September 2005. Messer and Jeff Davis created the series, and it ended in 2020. The revival series began in 2022.

The Criminal Minds franchise has remained very popular among TV watchers. The combined seasons placed ninth in the 2024 Nielsen streaming rankings.

Both Hulu and Paramount+ have the original series, which aired on CBS, available for streaming. The revival, however, is available exclusively on Paramount+.
