Kirbyvision, Official Jack Kirby Life Documentary in the Works
Known amongst the comic book community as “The King,” Jack Kirby is one of the most innovative and influential comic book creators. Now, his legacy will finally be recognized in a tell-all documentary feature, Kirbyvision.
The twentieth-century American comic book artist Jack Kirby is commended for a lifetime of work contributing to the comic book industry. He is responsible for many of the Marvel Comics superheroes we see on the big screen now.
The recognizable heroes such as the Hulk, Iron Man, Silver Surfer, Thor, and Black Panther are all thanks to him. Not to mention, the iconic Marvel teams such as The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Eternals, and the X-Men. Many of these characters he created along with his partner, fellow comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer Stan Lee.
Although Stan Lee is the mainstream name associated with making the making the Marvel universe, it is Jack Kirby who first created and drew the Avenger’s moral compass Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America with Joe Simon in 1940.

Kirbyvision is a feature documentary directed by acclaimed documentarian Ricki Stern. Known for her socially and politically charged films, Stern has helmed projects such as Reversing Roe, Surviving Jeffrey Epstein, and The Ultimate Captain America Marathon. She also co-directed the critically acclaimed biographical documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work.
The film is produced by Emmy Award-winning brothers Dan Braun and Josh Braun under their company, Submarine Entertainment. Additional producers attached to the project include Mike Cecchini, Ron Fogelman, and Chris Longo.
This means Kirbyvision will gain access to the late great comic creator’s personal documents, home movies, and creative materials, many of which have gone unseen by the public until now.
Born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 1917, Kirbyvision will track Kirby’s journey from his poor upbringing into the Great Depression, to serving in the European Theatre in WWI, through his whole comic book career until his death in 1994.
