Charli XCX Reportedly Eyed for Greta Gerwig New Narnia Film
According to Deadline, Charli XCX is reportedly being considered for Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated Netflix film Narnia.
While nothing is official, the “Guess” singer is among the top choices for a “key role.” Deadline claims she could potentially be cast as Jadis, the main antagonist in the book series.
Although the British singer-songwriter is a three-time Grammy winner, Charli XCX is not that visible in the acting world. Her theatrical resume is relatively short with voice parts in The Angry Birds Movie and UglyDolls. She recently made an appearance in an episode of the Gossip Girl reboot, however, she portrayed herself and performed “Lightning” from her album Crash.

The Narnia film will be based on The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, a series of fantasy novels that explore the difference between good and evil. In the series, Jadis, or the White Witch, curses Narnia so that it is always winter. She is characterized as being power-hungry and cruel, yet also intelligent and beautiful. Portraying such a multi-faceted character could add another achievement to Charli’s long list of accolades.
In 2018, Netflix announced that it would produce a project based on Lewis’ novels and a few years later, in 2020, Greta Gerwig, director of critically acclaimed films Barbie and Little Women joined the project. This will be her next big film following the success of Barbie, which was 2023’s highest-grossing film and the highest-grossing film ever directed by a solo female director. Narnia is a highly anticipated film for both Netflix and for Gerwig.

The film is expected to have a budget exceeding $200 million, making it one of Netflix’s most expensive projects. In comparison, Gerwig had an estimated $145 million budget for Barbie.
After months of negotiations, IMAX announced that Narnia will open in theaters on Thanksgiving Day 2026 and will premiere on Netflix on Christmas.
This is a rare deal for the streaming service seeing as the company likes to debut its movies on the platform itself. However, Netflix has previously released films in theaters to qualify for Oscar nominations, which is also the goal for this project.
Narnia is well on its way to starting production and soon audiences will find out more about this long-awaited adaptation. Charli XCX is speculated to portray Jadis but we will have to wait and see who else may join the cast.
