Khloé Kardashian Reflects on Relationship With Ex-husband Lamar Odom on New Season of The Kardashians
Khloé Kardashian has shared her thoughts on reuniting with her ex, Lamar Odom.
During the season 6 premiere of The Kardashians, the reality star expressed her personal goals before turning 40, one of which includes dealing with her “painful past.” In a surprise to many fans, she sat down for an emotional conversation with her ex-partner, Odom.
The former basketball player met Kardashian in August 2009 at an after-party for his former NBA teammate. Their connection formed quickly, and the pair were engaged in September of that year. Just nine days after the engagement, they tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at their home in California.
By July 2013, cheating rumors began to emerge, suggesting he may have been unfaithful in his marriage. By the end of 2013, Kardashian had filed for divorce, with speculation that the reasons were Odom’s drug abuse and cheating scandals. The divorce was finalized in July 2016. She went on to have a very publicized relationship with Tristan Thompson, an NBA player with whom she shares two kids.
The reality star had minimal contact with Odom over the years following the divorce. With only a few mentions of each other in interviews, the pair met for the first time in almost a decade. Together at a friend’s home, they discussed their emotions about their relationship and, ultimately, the end of their marriage.
She confessed, “I have dealt with so much trauma in this relationship. For years, this was such the love of my life that to learn how to unlove someone, to have to go through all that, it’s almost like a death.” The reality of their marriage and the pain it involved were exposed in this unexpected reunion.
In the latest episode, the reality star and her close friend, Malika Haqq, began planning Kardashian’s birthday celebrations. The friends visited a resort in Santa Barbara, where the reality star had previously vacationed with Odom. The environment brought back memories of her marriage to the former NBA star. Later, when asked by a producer about her thoughts on the meeting with Odom, Kardashian admitted that she was still “processing what this meeting meant.”
Kardashian continued by explaining what Odom meant to her and the entire Kardashian family:
She explained what Odom meant to the entire family: “Because our dad died so young, Lamar was like the first man that ever came into our lives who was like the head of the household. Lamar was everyone’s protector. Everyone, even if someone was older, looked up to Lamar.” She concluded her thoughts on the reunion by saying, “We still love him and cherish him, but that man is not there. Seeing him at Malika’s, I can’t help you anymore. You’ll never be this person we all idolized.”
Dealing with the difficulties of her relationship with Tristan Thompson and having to reopen the wound of her past marriage, she is doing her best to heal from the past. After receiving closure on her relationship, the star is set on focusing on her family and maybe finding new love in the future.
