Gigi Hadid Spills the Truth About Co-parenting With Ex-Zayn Malik

Supermodel Gigi Hadid discussed how she and ex-One Direction member Zayn Malik co-parent their 4-year-old daughter, Khai. In a recent interview with Vogue, Hadid shared insights into her relationship with Malik, her busy career, and the experience of shared custody.

The two had a long history together before navigating the challenges of co-parenting. In January 2016, Malik released his debut single, “Pillowtalk,” and a sensual music video featuring the supermodel. After the video’s release, it was difficult to ignore their undeniable romantic chemistry.

The pair began dating for several years, remaining in the spotlight until March 2018, when Malik announced their split. However, it wasn’t the end, as they continued to be seen together, with their on-and-off relationship. In April 2020, Hadid revealed her pregnancy to the world, sharing the journey alongside Malik. Finally, on September 9, 2020, they welcomed their daughter, Khai.

The good times didn’t last, as the singer faced an issue in October 2021 involving Gigi’s mother, Yolanda Hadid. The incident led to police involvement and legal charges. Since then, it seems that all parties have moved on from the incident, but it still marked the end of their relationship.

As of today, they are no longer together, with the supermodel reportedly dating The Hangover star Bradley Cooper and focusing on her career. Meanwhile, Malik, single, is dedicating his time to music and recovering from his first solo tour for his latest album. Both remain actively involved in their daughter’s life, sharing updates on the quality time they spend with her.

Despite their separation, the pair continue to co-parent and strive to provide a stable life for their daughter. The supermodel described how her daily life is planned months in advance to prioritize her daughter’s needs.

She further explained, “That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t change here and there, but we help each other out and have each other’s backs.”

Believing that her relationship with Malik has come a long way from past drama and rumors, she feels they have entered a new era of “love and a feeling of camaraderie.” Hadid remains focused on what truly matters to her, refusing to let outside influences dictate her life.

She concluded the conversation about her family dynamic by expressing, “There is the hard part of the world knowing this much, and thinking they know everything, and at the end of the day, we’re not interested in giving everyone our whole story. What we are interested in is raising our daughter together, with so much respect for each other, and not just as co-­parents, but what we’ve been through together.”  

The pair aims to remain successful in their careers while maintaining a healthy co-parenting relationship for their daughter.
