Brooke Shields guest-hosted the episode and asked the 46-year-old actor what he learned from his co-star while bringing the beloved franchise to life.
“I was quite young. And I kind of learned how to be on set for Emilio because I didn’t know any of this stuff,” he added. Jackson portrayed Charlie Conway in the trilogy that began in 1992. Meanwhile, Estevez portrayed a former hockey player, Gordon Bombay, who coaches the team due to community service requirements.

The Fringe alumnus recalled one day while filming D2: Mighty Ducks (1994), where they filmed a game sequence in an arena full of people; he assumed around 20,000 fans were in attendance.
“I was coming off [the ice], I don’t know why — either I was being a little d**k as I was tired or whatever — but for some reason, there was a bunch of people waiting for autographs, and I just blew past them to go to the locker room,” he continued. “Emilio pulled me to the side and was like, ‘Don’t ever do that again,’ and I was like, ‘What do you mean?’”
“Don’t ever do that again. Why do you think you get to go out there and skate in front of all these people? This is who keeps you employed. Do not ever forget who it is you are here for,” he remembered the 62-year-old actor telling him.
Shields called the advice “brilliant” because she remembered her “mom used to say, ‘every person is one person,’ “and that relationship is just between you and them, and you have to respect it.”
Jackson proclaimed that it “was a critical reframing for my 15-year-old self [to be like], ‘Just remember who you are and what’s important.’” Shields added that the fact that Jackson “took” the advice was a “huge testament” to who he was.
After his time with the franchise ended, the actor picked up older roles, like his portrayal of Pacey in Dawson’s Creek (1998-2003). He now stars in ABC’s Doctor Odyssey, which airs on Thursday nights. Meanwhile, his co-star reprised his role as coach in the first season of the Mighty Ducks: Game Changers series (2021), streaming exclusively on Disney+.
