From the Upside Down to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As Stranger Things comes to an end, Sadie Sink is eyeing another million-dollar franchise and joining Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4.

Spider-Man 4 will be the fourth installment in the MCU‘s Spider-Man franchise, which began in 2017 with Spider-Man: Homecoming. Of the three film iterations of our friendly neighborhood Spider-man, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is the first to get more than a trilogy, surpassing Sam Raimi’s trilogy.

While neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures has confirmed this, sources have reported to Deadline that Sink will appear in the next installment of their joint Spider-Man franchise.

Tom Holland has already confirmed that he will return in his titular role of Spider-man/Peter Parker. So far, he is the only cast member from the MCU Spider-Man trilogy set to return.

This makes sense, considering Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) wiped Peter Parker from everyone’s memory at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Unlike the first three films, this will be the first MCU Spider-Man film not to be directed by Jon Watts. Instead, Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is set to direct.

Cretton has worked with Sink before, when he directed and co-wrote The Glass Castle, a 2017 biographical drama. In the film, Sink plays the younger version of Sarah Snook’s character, Lori Walls.

Potential Parts for Sadie Sink in Spider-Man 4

With casting comes speculation, and Marvel Comics has many phenomenal characters to choose from. Many online speculate that Sink’s casting indicates X-Men member Jean Grey, or possibly a “comic-accurate” Mary Jane “MJ” Watson. However, those speculations are incorrect.

Introducing a legendary superhero like Jean Grey as a side character in another hero’s story—especially one who isn’t even a mutant—would be a disservice to a character whose power rivals cosmic entities. As for Mary Jane Watson, the MCU already has Michelle Jones ‘MJ’ Watson (Zendaya), making another MJ both unnecessary and unwanted.

However, many other roles would suit her much better. Perhaps Firestar (Angelica Jones)? Her origins connect here to Peter Parker; she debuted in the 1980s animated series Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.

Who else could it be? Gwen Stacy? Kitty Pryde of the X-Men? Maybe even Peter’s rival/love interest, Felicia Hardy—the Black Cat? Sink could also have been cast as an entirely new character, perhaps one original to the film. It would be rare but not unusual.

There’s still plenty of time for speculation as filming for Spider-Man 4 won’t begin anytime soon. Tom Holland is currently filming Christopher Nolan’s next film, an adaptation of The Odyssey. He was recently photographed on set in Greece with the director.

Although his part in the film has not yet been confirmed, it is largely believed to be that of Telemachus, son of Odysseus and Penelope.

Likewise, Sink is also busy. She is getting ready to head back to broadway in Kimberly Belflower’s stageplay, John Proctor is the Villain, a revisionist take on Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

So far, Spider-Man 4 has been kept very close under wraps; little is known about the plot or production status of the film. Production is slated to begin later this year, but a potential release date has not been revealed.
