The Voice Welcomes Coco Jones In New Season
Grammy-Award winning singer Coco Jones can add a new job to her résumé: working with John Legend as the team advisor for season 27 of The Voice.
On Monday night’s episode, Jones mentored Team Legend’s protegés for the first round of team battles.
The R&B singer revealed her thoughts, “To be able to give any wisdom makes me feel super humble because I’ve had a lot of tough criticism that has helped me grow, and I want to offer that.”

To Kolby Cordell, Jones advised, “To me the theme of the song is flirty. You’re going to have women in the audience so don’t forget what you’re trying to make them feel.”

The “ICU” singer’s advice worked. In the first round of battles, Legend picked Kolby Cordell against Pablo Herrera singing “Tacones Rojos.” Legend praised Cordell, “The fact that he [Cordell] took on this assignment and it wasn’t exactly in his wheelhouse and still really nailed it, I think the future is really bright for Kolby.”
In a tough match up singing Roberta Flack’s “Feel Like Making Love,” Nell Simmons lost to Olivia Kuper Harris. But this was a difficult decision for Legend, revealing, “It was so hard to pick a winner. They were literally so close to each other but I had to pick Olivia.”
He continued, “I don’t think anyone sounds like her and she can do some really interesting things in the competition.” However, this wasn’t the end of Simmons’ story. Adam Levine used his steal and Legend used his only save of the season to push her to the next round of competition.
Coco Jones knows what it means to compete. As a child and into her teenage years, Jones participated on the Disney Channel, competing in Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing, where she finished in second place, and released her debut album Coco Jones in 2011. The following year, she signed on to Hollywood Records and starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Let It Shine, but was dropped from her label.
In 2021, Jones was cast as Hilary Banks in the Peacock reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and returned to music in 2022 with the seven-song EP What I Didn’t Tell You. The standout single “ICU” became her first charting song and won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. Currently, Jones has released the first single of her debut album, Why Not More? titled “Taste” and will be going on tour in May.
