Chappell Roan Releases New Country Single ‘The Giver’
Grammy Award-winning singer Chappell Roan has just released her highly anticipated new single “The Giver” along with a lyric video.
Roan debuted her latest song, “The Giver,” when she performed on Saturday Night Live back in early November. After her performance, she began promoting promoting the single with billboards, posters, and a hotline, portraying the Midwest Princess in various careers, from private detective to construction worker. Each week leading up to the release of “The Giver,” Roan dropped dropped a new vinyl variant of the song, available for pre-order pre-order, featuring covers of herself as a lawyer, private detective, dentist, construction worker, and plumber.
This week the anticipated release finally dropped along with a campy lyric video of the “Good Luck Babe!” singer portraying all the jobs in the promotional material again with retro infomercial-esque vibes. Along with the different jobs, there are fun taglines such as “You’ll love my briefs” for the lawyer and “I know what you are!” for the detective.
Throughout “The Giver” video, there were also hints at songs potentially on Roan’s next album. The video opens with a menu selection screen with the title options “To Be Yours,” “Read & Make Out,” “Good Luck, Babe!,” “The Giver,” and “The Subway.” Later in the video, the songs “Good Luck, Babe!,” “Read & Make Out,” “The Subway,” and “The Giver” are the names of credit card options. Her song “Read & Make Out” was released as a demo on her vinyl of “Good Luck, Babe!” and the singer has sung “The Subway” at concerts in the past.
Earlier this week, Roan sat with the Country Heat Weekly podcast and shared her plans for her next album.
She stated, “That last album took five years, so I’m not like trying to rush anything. I just want to find the best group of songs, whether that is five country songs, whether it’s two or one and the rest are pop, I just want what I know is the best.”
After the song’s release, Roan took to her Discord fan server and went live on TikTok to address questions about the song and her next album.
One fan asked about the song’s lyric-writing process. The “Pink Pony Club” singer answered, “we tried a lot of different things for the bridge but it was so f**king annoying nothing was working so i left it blank bc i have a surprise for when i do it live.”
Roan is excited to bring the country genre to audiences who may not listen to the genre but now will get a taste of what the genre has to offer.
“It is def a bold and scary move to release a full ass country song after only releasing one song last year and it having such a success in the pop genre .. (like I am very scared as I type this lol) but I think that’s the entire point of chappell roan. Be bold and scary and have fun,” Roan wrote on Instagram.
