Bad Bunny Excites Crowd With New Performance at This Year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards
Bad Bunny performed at Monday night’s iHeartRadio Music Awards, closing out the ceremony with a bang.
The Grammy Award-winning singer added to his awards collection this week, winning Latin Pop Song of the Year for his collaborative song “PERRO NEGRO” with Feid off his album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana.
His newest album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, has become a global sensation since its release earlier this year. The album brought Puerto Rican culture to the forefront through his use of Puerto Rican musical rhythms like plena. It also called attention to serious issues plaguing the island, such as gentrification, as discussed in his song “LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii,” and the sadness of a changing island as the diaspora increases and natives are bought out from their homes, as portrayed through the album’s cover and teaser video. His first residency alludes to this narrative as its held in Puerto Rico and called “No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí” or “I Don’t Want to Leave,” in English.
When the album dropped, Bad Bunny wrote on Instagram, “Without a single doubt this is the best project of my career, the most special, the most beautiful and with the most pure sentiment. I DEDICATE THIS TO PUERTO RICO!!!”
At the iHeartRadio Music Awards, Becky G and Offset introduced Bad Bunny’s performance of his song “EoO” off the global chart-dominating album. The Puerto Rican singer came out wearing a big fur coat above a stage of dancers recreating a club on stage. He later joined his dancers in the club by trust falling off the stage into a crowd surf while the audience screamed in shock and excitement.
His performance was perfect to close out the night on a high note. Bad Bunny has brought the world together with his music despite any language barriers. The Latin Trap King has consistently and unapologetically brought Puerto Rican music and language into every space and has attracted the world not only through his artistry but also through authenticity.
