Playboi Carti Brings Out The Weeknd to Sing Their New Song at Rolling Loud
Playboi Carti closed out the Rolling Loud California festival with The Weeknd, Skepta and Kai Cenat for an explosive set. His performance quickly followed the release of his new album Music which shattered Spotify streaming records.
Carti and The Weeknd performed “Rather Lie” from his new album in addition to their earlier collaboration “Timeless.” British rapper Skepta jumped on stage to sing his new song with Carti “Toxic.” Youtuber and Twitch streamer Kai Cenat made an appearance to receive a custom YVL chain from Carti.
Given the unmatched energy of the set, a dozen songs in, the lights went on and Carti had to leave the stage. The screens told fans to back up from the front barricades to prevent the crowd from pushing forward and crushing one another.
Over the loudspeakers the organizers stated, “We’ll pay any curfew fines so Carti can do his whole set. Everyone calm down and take three steps back.” Twenty minutes later, he was back on stage accompanied by the “Cry for Me” singer.
The headlining rapper performed days after the release of Music, his third studio album. The album broke Spotify streaming records on release day Friday, March 14, becoming the most streamed project in a single day thus far.

Music is Carti’s first album in five years following the release of Whole Lotta Red in 2020. He kept his work under wraps, giving his fans just of glimpse of what to expect with songs like “2024,” “H00DBYAIR,” “EVILJ0RDAN” and “BACKR00MS” last year.
The rapper was not the only one to sing new music at Rolling Loud this weekend. A$AP Rocky, Saturday’s headliner, debuted unreleased tracks from his long-awaited album Don’t Be Dumb. The rapper made a dramatic entrance to the festival by descending from a helicopter that hovered above the stage. This marks his first live performance after being found not guilty in his felony trial.
Saturday’s performances also featured YG, Sexyy Red, Peso Pluma and BossMan Dlow. Sunday audiences saw Ken Carson, Soulja Boy, Destroy Lonely, Quavo, and of course, Playboi Carti.
