Billboard Releases Top Women Artists of 21st Century Chart: See Full List Here
Several powerhouse women have landed their names on the Billboard Top Women Artists of the 21st Century Chart.
Billboard released its Top Women Artists of the 21st Century chart on Wednesday, March 19, listing several sensational artists spanning across genres. The chart was based on artists’ performances on the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 over the past 25 years.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift claimed the top spot for her record-shattering career. Last May, the “Cruel Summer” singer filled the top 14 of the Hot 100 with songs from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, making her the artist with the most hits from a number one album in one week.
The album also reached number one on the Billboard 200. It was her fourteenth project on the chart, the most among any female artist.
Swift has 14 Grammys and holds the record for the most Album of the Year wins with four. She recently wrapped up the “Eras Tour,” which was named Tour of the Century at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. The “Love Story” artist also re-recorded four of her six earliest albums to reclaim the rights to her music.
Rihanna
Rihanna followed her up at number two. Her first single, “Pon de Replay,” reached the number two spot on the Hot 100 in 2005. She reached the number one spot with, “SOS,” in 2006. The “Disturbia” singer has achieved 14 number-one singles, the most of any artist in the 21st century so far.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé took the third spot on the chart for her groundbreaking journey as an artist. She began her career in the trio, Destiny’s Child. Beyoncé released her first solo single “Crazy in Love,” with JAY-Z which reached number one on the Hot 100. The track remained there for seven weeks.
The “Single Ladies” singer has nine number-one singles, all of her albums have debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Her most recent album, Cowboy Carter, made her the first Black woman to top the Top Country Albums chart.
Adele
Adele’s album, 21, broke records as it spent 24 weeks atop the Billboard 200 in 2011 and 2012, the longest time by any female artist. It was also the first album since Thriller by Michael Jackson to be at the number one spot in two different years. “Someone Like You,” “Set Fire to the Rain,” and “Rolling in the Deep” all made it to number one on the Hot 100.
Adele’s 25 spent 10 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, landing a number-one single with “Hello,” and 30 was there for six weeks. “Easy On Me” was number one on the Hot 100 for 10 weeks.
Katy Perry
Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” sat at number one of the Hot 100 for seven weeks. Following this, her album, Teenage Dream, soared to number one of the Billboard 200. The project produced five number-one hits, making it only the second album in history to do so. The other was Bad by Michael Jackson.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga’s debut album, The Fame, was listed in Billboard’s Top 200 Albums of the 21st Century. It also scored Top Dance Album in 2021, 13 years after its release. The “Bad Romance” singer had seven songs in the Hot 100 top 10 in 2007 and 2008.
After diverting from dark-pop for several years, Gaga returned to her roots with her latest album, MAYHEM. The album was released earlier this month and currently sits atop the Billboard 200.
Pink
Pink has incredible numbers when it comes to Billboard charts. She has charted 13 tracks on the Hot 100, and nine albums in the Billboard 200 top 10. Three of her albums reached number one: The Truth About Love, Beautiful Trauma, and Trustfall.
8) Ariana Grande
Throughout her outstanding career, Ariana Grande has had 91 songs make it to the Hot 100. She achieved 22 top 10 songs on the chart, with nine of them going to number one. The “we can’t be friends” singer has also had six albums reach number one on the Billboard 200.
Earlier this month, Grande announced Eternal Sunshine: Brighter Days Ahead, releasing March 28. The album brings six new songs to the original, Eternal Sunshine. A short film will also accompany the album release.
As an actress, Grande was recently nominated for her first Oscar for her performance in Wicked where she portrayed Glinda.
Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus has accomplished great feats in music, as both Miley, and Hannah Montana. She has had two number one singles in her career so far: “Wrecking Ball” and “Flowers.”
Five of Cyrus’ albums reached number one, with four of them being for Hannah Montana. She’s also had 12 singles reach the Hot 100 top 10.
Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys’ first album, Songs in A Minor, achieved the number one spot on the Billboard 200 in 2001. Since then, eight of her albums made the top 10, and she has two number one singles: “Empire State of Mind” with JAY-Z and “Girl on Fire.”
