School Spirits Season 3 In the Works at Paramount+
Split River High has many more mysteries to solve, and they will. Paramount+ has renewed the supernatural teen drama School Spirits for season 3.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead
The first two seasons follow young high schooler Maddie Nears (Peyton List) as she investigates her own mysterious disappearance while confined to school grounds as a ghost. With the help of her friends, living and dead alike, Maddie fights for the chance to reclaim her stolen life—or rather, her possessed body.
Season one of School Spirits was released on Paramount+ on March 9, 2023. Season two of the supernatural mystery premiered in January and concluded its eight episodes on March 6. Season two garnered 1.7 million viewers in the first seven days of episode one’s release, averaging 3.9 million viewers in the first 28 days. Paramount+ saw viewership increase 94% from its first season and achieved a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score for the second season.
What’s to Come in School Spirits Season 3?
At the end of season one, Maddie discovers that her mysterious disappearance isn’t a mysterious death, as everyone assumed. It turns out that another ghost student, Janet Hamilton (Jess Gabor), has taken possession of Maddie’s body. If that wasn’t enough, her ghostly friends discover that their ghost guidance counselor, Mr. Martin (Josh Zuckerman), knows more than he lets on.
Over eight episodes, Maddie and her friends learn that Mr. Martin has been studying them for decades, using Janet as a guinea pig to determine how each ghost’s “scars”- a hellish manifestation of their lives, deaths, and trauma – work and whether they could use them to cross over.
In the final episode of season two, chaos ensues. All the ghost students face the trauma of their early demise, Janet departs Maddie’s body, and Maddie says a tearful goodbye to the friends she made in the afterlife, including her romantic interest, Wally Clark (Milo Manheim).
But when one door closes, another mystery opens. Maddie’s return to living is not the end of the mystery because now someone else is trapped in her place: her best friend. The final scene of season two reveals that Simon Elroy (Kristian Ventura) is now trapped in the school after running headfirst into the fire to look for Maddie. He’s none the wiser as he turns to Janet and asks, “Where’s Maddie?”
Simon isn’t the only mystery. Mr. Martin told the students that there is a larger mystery at hand at Split River High, something that links their deaths and keeps so many of them tethered to the school.
So, is Simon dead? Did Wally cross over? Why do so many students keep dying at this school? Why can Maddie’s real-world boyfriend, Xavier Baxter (Spencer MacPherson), see her dead father?
The season two finale opened a whole can of worms, and a now-confirmed season three will hopefully bring some answers sometime in 2026.
School Spirits is available to stream on Paramount+. Season 1 is also available to stream on Netflix.
