Marvel Reveals New Cast for Avengers: Doomsday
The Marvel Universe is gearing up for its biggest battle yet. In an anticipated livestream event, Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the powerhouse cast of Avengers: Doomsday, set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
Returning fan favorites include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, and Paul Rudd as the ever-charming Scott Lang/Ant-Man. But they won’t face any new threats alone, new heroes are stepping into the scene. Vanessa Kirby will make her MCU debut as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, following her introduction in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, while Letitia Wright will continue in her role as Shuri from Black Panther.

The last time the Avengers assembled was to take down Thanos (Josh Brolin) in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, a battle that marked the emotional departures of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America, and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. Since then, the MCU has expanded, bringing in new heroes like Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Eternals. However, Iron Man’s legacy isn’t entirely in the past as Downey Jr. is set to make a shocking return, but this time as the menacing Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. “New mask, same task,” he teased during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, leaving fans buzzing with excitement.
This casting decision makes it the first time an actor has portrayed two major roles in the MCU, changing what is possible in the multiverse saga. Downey Jr.’s return as Doom is rumored to be more than just a one-time appearance, with some hinting that he could be the overarching villain across multiple phases.
The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, are also making a return to the MCU. Having navigated Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, and the epic finales Infinity War and Endgame, they are once again taking the reins for Avengers: Doomsday, promising a spectacle unlike any other.
Before Earth’s Mightiest Heroes reunite, Marvel has more in store. Thunderbolts arrive on May 2 followed by The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25, setting the stage for what could be the best Avengers film yet.
