Beyond the Spider-verse Shares New Release Date and First Look
No, this is not an April Fool’s prank; the most anticipated film of 2026 is now the most anticipated film of 2027. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-verse will open in theaters on June 4, 2027.
The Miles Morales Spider-man films have arguably been Sony‘s most successful franchise, which isn’t hard since this is the same company that made Madame Web. But then again, Miles Morales has been a beloved Marvel superhero since his Ultimate Comics debut in 2011.
If you ask a die-hard Marvel Comics fan, they might say he was the only good thing to come out of Marvel’s Ultimate Comics run.
CinemaCon, a gathering of theaters from all over the world, is currently happening in Las Vegas. Many film production companies have been sharing sneak peeks, casting news, and release dates for upcoming projects this year and next.
This week, Bob Persichetti, Justin K Thompson, and writer/producer Phil Lord will take the stage at CinemaCon to discuss new details regarding the final installment of Miles Morales’ exciting trilogy and reveal some exclusive footage.
Initially slated for 2023, Beyond the Spider-verse saw constant production delays, from the 2023 WGA strike to schedule delays to overworked animators.
These plot details do not include the beloved animation style of Spider-Verse. Word has it that the hard-working (some would claim overworked) men and women at Sony Pictures Animation will be experimenting with new animation styles as they enter this final installment of Spider-Verse.

Across the Spider-Verse Recap
Spoilers for Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse and Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse.
When we last saw Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), he had escaped the Spider-Society, a coalition of Spider-People from all across the multiverse to fight multiversal threats. On his own, he retreats to his home universe to save his dad from what the Spider-Society refers to as their “canon events,” tragic losses that define them as heroes who can not be disrupted or risk universal collapse. Leader of the Spider-Society, Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Issac).
But the problem? He’s now lost in the multiverse, face to face with an alternate version of himself (Jharrel Jerome) that took on the antagonistic mantle of “The Prowler.”
He won’t be alone for long. Spider-Woman Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) has found renewed motivation to find Miles. Assembling her own band of Spider-People, consisting of friends from the first and second film, they’re on the hunt to save their friend and the universe.
And if that wasn’t stressful enough, Across the Spider-verse antagonist, The Spot (Jason Schwartzman), has begun an attack on Miles’ home world with no one to stop him.

Beyond the Spider-verse will begin immediately where Across the Spider-verse left off, with Miles on the run with his Spider friends trying to save him.
The footage from CinemaCon has been kept under lock and key, so we don’t know if the preview was a teaser trailer, the first few minutes of the film, or even a raw animation cut. But those who know have described Beyond the Spider-Verse as an epic finale to a stellar trilogy that plans to go out with a bang.
Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix before it leaves April 30.
