Beatles Biopic Official Cast and Release Year Revealed
The Beatles are coming to the big screen in April 2028.
The official cast for the Beatles biopic was revealed by Director Sam Mendes on Tuesday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. To celebrate the announcement, the cast made a special appearance on stage.
Paul Mescal will star as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
At the end of the announcement, the four actors recited lyrics from the band’s hit song, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” before taking a bow for the audience. Rather than making one film about their journey, the biopic will be split into four movies, one per band member.
“They’re four very different human beings,” Mendes stated in the announcement. “Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.”
Mendes expanded on why he felt four films were necessary rather than one, and why they had to be films.
“But together, all four films will tell the story of the greatest band in history,” Mendes stated. “I just felt the story of the band was too huge to fit into a single movie, and that turning it into a TV mini-series just somehow didn’t feel right.”
The project, which is titled The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event, was first announced early last year. Sony Pictures and Neal Street Productions are working together on the biopic, with Mendes, Pippa Harris, and Julie Pastor are serving as producers.
The “Here Comes the Sun” band formed in 1960 and split in 1970. Even today, the Beatles still remain a popular band among music lovers, collecting over 31 million monthly streams on Spotify.
